ARARAT WIND FARM

RES is proposing to build a wind farm on rural land located approximately 183km northwest of Melbourne and between 9km - 17km northeast of Ararat in Victoria.

On the 7th October, 2009 RES lodged Planning Permit Applications for the development of a 75 turbine Wind Energy Facility.

The Panel Hearing process completed on 15th July 2010. The Planning Permit Application documentation is available through this website and can be found here.

RES received planning permits from both Councils on Friday 22nd of October 2010 from Hon Justin Madden, Minister for Planning.

The development manager, Ignacio Palacios commented:

"This is a fantastic achievement by the whole team at RES and a great result for the local region, as well as Victoria. We have spent several years working on this project and are delighted that the consent was issued just three months after the Panel Hearing. The support from the local community and Ararat Rural City and Northern Grampians Shire Councils throughout the development of the wind farm has been greatly appreciated, which I've no doubt has helped the Minister for Planning in reaching a positive decision so promptly. The Ararat wind farm will contribute to the legislated Renewable Energy Target to deliver 20 per cent of Australia's electricity from sustainable sources by 2020."

RES is now working towards securing the overhead line route and is aiming to submit the planning application to both consenting authorities, Ararat Rural City Council and Pyrenees Shire Council, in early 2011.
